Our Foundation

Why We Started

We noticed something years ago. People struggle with saying no — not because they’re weak or selfish, but because nobody teaches it properly. Workplace boundaries feel awkward. Family conversations turn painful. And when you finally set a limit, guilt follows like a shadow.

There’s plenty of advice out there. But most of it skips over the real problems. It ignores how hard it actually feels. It doesn’t address what happens when someone gets defensive. It doesn’t explain why guilt shows up even when you know you did the right thing.

That’s why we started Boundary Voices. We wanted to create something different — guides that take the mess seriously. Content that acknowledges both the benefits and the genuine challenges of assertive communication. Writing that feels honest, not preachy.

Our approach is straightforward. We research what people actually struggle with. We find approaches that work in real situations, not just in theory. We write plainly so that anyone can understand and apply what they learn. And we keep everything current because understanding evolves.

How We Work

What We Check in Every Guide

Our editorial process focuses on accuracy, practical usefulness, and honest representation of both benefits and challenges.

Practical Examples

We don’t deal in abstractions. Every guide includes real-world scenarios — workplace conversations, family boundaries, friendship limits — so you see how principles actually apply.

Accuracy Review

Each piece is checked for factual accuracy and current thinking. We verify approaches against established research and update content regularly as understanding evolves.

Both Sides

We don’t pretend assertive communication is always easy or comfortable. We describe the real challenges, the guilt that shows up, and what actually helps when things get difficult.

Clear Language

No jargon. No therapy-speak. We write the way people actually talk, so the ideas stick and feel applicable to your own situations right away.

Regular Updates

Content doesn’t sit static. We revisit guides seasonally, check that examples still resonate, and refresh material when new insights emerge or circumstances change.

Real Feedback

We listen to what readers tell us. If something’s unclear or missing important context, we revise it. Your actual questions shape how we explain things.

What We Believe

Our Editorial Values

Honesty First

We don’t oversell or simplify beyond usefulness. Assertive communication is genuinely difficult. Saying no often creates discomfort. That’s the reality we describe, not something to hide.

Clarity Over Completeness

A shorter guide that actually makes sense is better than a long one that overwhelms. We’d rather explain one thing well than touch on everything poorly. You should be able to read something and actually use it.

Respect for Context

Boundaries look different in different relationships. We acknowledge that what works between friends might not work with family, and workplace boundaries operate under different rules entirely. We don’t pretend there’s one right answer.

Compassion Included

Assertiveness isn’t about winning arguments or being harsh. It’s about expressing your needs clearly while still respecting the other person. We show how to do both at the same time.

The Editorial Team

We’re based in Sligo and work collaboratively across research, writing, and content review. Our team includes people with backgrounds in communication, psychology, and writing — but what matters most is our commitment to clear, honest guidance.

We don’t do this alone. We’re influenced by current research on communication and boundary-setting, feedback from readers, and our own experience watching how these conversations play out in real life. That combination shapes everything we create.

If you’ve got a question about our work, want to suggest a topic, or just want to get in touch — we’d like to hear from you.
